BEIJING CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT TOWER
LOCATION: Beijing, China
AREA: 400,000 sq.ft.
An icon for the Beijing Central Business District inspired by the concept of “movement” through the city and through nature.
The 300m tall Office and Residential Tower is an icon for the Beijing Central Business District inspired by the concept of “movement” through the city and through nature. This notion of movement is also inherent in traditional art and landscape in Chinese culture. The form of the tower torques and twists to optimize solar exposure, views to the city and program uses. Movement is expressed through a vertical green continuous path cutting through the tower to form vertical atria and green terraces and gardens. Like the symbolic and bold virtuosity found in “grass-style” calligraphy, sweeping lines and curves unify the twisting form of the tower as it sweeps and builds an iconic profile on the Beijing skyline.
Sarika Bajoria collaborated with Woods Bagot, New York as a senior design consultant on the design of the iconic tower for Beijing for the competition proposal.
