Team : Sarika Bajoria, Madhumita Srivastava, Christine Rung, Faezeh Arefnazari
The House is located on a beautiful 5 acre orchard in Raigad, an hour and a half outside of Mumbai City. It will be a weekend and vacation home for the client who lives in Mumbai city. The house is 4400 sf and is strategically located on the highest point of the large orchard site which offers amazing views to the orchard and the mountains on the other side. Our design is very site specific where the architecture and the landscape responds to the existing trees and the contours on the site to “celebrates” them to form intimate courtyards around them, which connect physically and visually to the major spaces of the house. These courtyards are bound by the house and they become an extension of the interior spaces out to the landscape. We created a water body at front entry courtyard around the existing tree with landscaped steps around it which branch off the main entry steps. The rear courtyard is centered around another existing tree which is embraced by the terrace on the second floor.
The House consists of a large living room, dining room, kitchen, sun room, one master bedroom and two guest bedrooms. Large terraces are designed and oriented to provide the most amazing views of the surrounding hills and the orchard. Large windows cantilever from the walls of the bedroom and lounge as sculptural elements which also become a day bed on the inside.
